More death, the deep and the dark

My dear therapist told me we needed to go deep recently. Ps 69:114

"Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, deliver me from the deep waters." came to mind. So I started thinking about the deepest thing I know, the abyssal plain at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. It's where you go to right? In the middle of that plain at the very bottom of the ocean is the mid-Atlantic rift.

I think the rift looks a little like a scar, which is appropriate. This crack in the earth's surface is at the bottom of the ocean, in a biome called the benthos. This is an aphotic zone with no natural light, only extremophiles, like methanogens can live at the extremely high pressures and temperatures found there.
Yet it is here at the bottom of the world, at the greatest depths that something amazing happens. Life

It is here at bone crushing depths, where the trash of the ocean accumulates that new earth is created.
Magma pushes up and through the scar and spreads out in both directions and creates new oceanic crust, which in turn pushes the old oceanic crust, causing plate tectonics, which causes volcanoes to blow and mountains to shake and over time has literally changed the shape of the void from a planet with one continent pangaea to seven.

We see it in the book of Genesis 1:1-10
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day. And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.

Current theories about the origin of life are not about a primordial ooze that we learned about in school, but instead about oceanic geysers along the bottom of the ocean floor that created conditions that could support the first sulfur based life forms.

Did you catch that? God's creation started with the dark and deep; yet we hesitate to go there. Yet literally EVERYTHING of importance starts there. It is in the deepest dark that the tiniest light is most visible.

In Acts 16:22-26Paul and Silas are in jail it is the middle of the night, and we learn about why we need to praise when all seems darkest

the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods.  After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks. About midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.  Suddenly, there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once, all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.

When it is the darkest, when we are beaten and down when we are at our lowest, we are closest to the dawn, it is then God shakes the foundations of the earth to free us.

Recently . I heard a woman describing her dream from God where she quoted this song. (Highlights are mine) which talks about death another type of deep.

I Know A Name by Elevation Worship, Chris Brown, Brandon Lake

verse

I know a name that can silence the roaring waves
I know a name that can empty out a grave
I know a name, it′s the only name that saves
And it's worthy of all praise

chorus

I call You, Jesus
I call You, I call You Healer
Risen and reigning in power
Something comes out of the grave
Every time I call You, Jesus
I call You, I call You Savior
Worthy of glory forever
Something comes out of the grave
Every time I call Your name

verse

I have a King with dominion over death
He holds the keys in His holy nail-scarred hands
He is the heel, yeah-yeah
That has crushed the serpent′s head
Our resurrected Great I Am, come on

chorus

I call You, Jesus
I call You, I call You Healer
Risen and reigning in power
Something comes out of the grave
Every time I call You, Jesus
I call You, I call You Savior
Worthy of glory forever
Something comes out of the grave

hook

Every time I call Your name
Chains break, dry bones wake
Every time I call Your name
The gates of Hell shake
Every time I call Your name
Chains break, dry bones wake
Every time I call Your name
The gates of Hell shake
Every time I call Your name
Oh-oh-oh
Every time I call Your name
Yeah, yeah-yeah
Mmm

bridge

Where, oh death, is now your sting?
And where, oh grave, your victory?
Come on now
Where, oh death, is now your sting?
And where, oh grave, your victory?
Yeah, where, oh death, is now your sting?
And where, oh grave, your victory?
Yeah

hook

Dead things come alive
Dead things come alive
Dead things come alive in the name of Jesus
Dead things come alive (dead things)
Dead things come alive
Dead things come alive in the name of Jesus
Dead things come alive
Dead things come alive (dead things come alive)
Dead things come alive
Dead things come alive in the name of Jesus
Dead things come alive
Dead things come alive
Dead things come alive in the name

chorus

I call You, Jesus
I call You, I call You Healer
Risen and reigning in power
Something comes out of the grave (every time)
Every time I call You, Jesus
I call You, I call You Savior
Worthy of glory forever
Something comes out of the grave (oh, every time)

hook

Every time I call Your name
Chains break, dry bones wake
Every time I call Your name
The gates of Hell shake
Every time I call Your name (dead things)
Dead things come alive, yeah
Dead things come alive, oh
Dead things come alive in the name of Jesus (yeah)
Dead things come alive
Dead things come alive
Dead things come alive in the name of Jesus

verse

Yeah, yeah
So much power in the name of Jesus
So much power in the name of Jesus
Found my healing in the name of Jesus
I was healed in the name of Jesus
Found my freedom in the name, Jesus
Found my breakthrough in the name, Jesus (come on, sing)

chorus

And I call You, Jesus
I call You, I call You Healer
Risen and reigning in power
Something comes out of the grave (of the grave)
Every time I call You, Jesus
I call You, I call You Savior
Worthy of glory forever
Something comes out of the grave
Every time I call Your name
Oh, yeah

So don't be afraid of the deep, of the dark, its where dead things come alive and the Creator of the universe does some of His best work, He wants to bring the dead things inside our hearts back to life, the things that we have buried deep
