On eagle's wings

I was reading Psalm 91 about taking shelter under God's wings and I started to think about eagles of course Isa 40:31 is one of my favorite verses, but in the book of Revelation one of the four creatures around God's throne is eagle-like.

The Eagle Analogy

Eagles are born with big and heavy wings, and part of the survival mechanism they are born with is that they have to learn how to fly without actually flapping their big wings.

Eagles have to learn how to do this in order to conserve energy. Eagles can literally die if they expend too much energy flapping their wings during flight versus soaring.Eagles must learn this behavior very early on. To fly without flapping eagles need to learn to wait for thermal winds. This is a big ust of wind that rises up into the atmosphere.

Sometimes eagles will remain perched for days before they catch a good strong wind. Their launch is a combination of flying and soaring

Here is the gist of the analogy lock it into your memory

We are the eagle
The wings of the eagle represent our faith and belief in God.
To fly eagles have to take a leap of faith and depend on the thermals.
The thermals represent the Holy Spirit

Just like the eagle must catch the thermal to survive, we  have to learn to be led by the Holy Spirit to thrive in our Christian walk. If we do this on a daily basis we can accomplish what God has set out for us to do; otherwise, we are like an eagle flapping its wings doomed under the burden of trying to get aloft and fly based on our own strength.

Just like the eagle must learn to navigate the thermals we must learn to walk in the Spirit

Eagles are master fliers
Eagles can fly to heights that other birds cannot. They have been seen flying as high as airplanes. How do they accomplish this? By the skill with which they maneuver on thermals. In the same way we can reach new heights that we never dreamed possible  if we allow the Holy Spirit to carry us to our destination.

Just think about how much more good fruit you could produce  and how much more you could accomplish for the  Lord in this lifetime if we could just learn to ride the spiritual thermals.

Eagles are master fishermen
Eagles are masters at locking in on their prey and swooping down and catching them from a great distance. We too have been called to be "fishers of men"

Eagles are places of refuge
The Bible uses eagles as a symbol of God's constant presence in our lives in Ps 91;4 it reads, 'he will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart."
Eagles protect their chicks in pairs. They can shelter them with their wings or literally carry them on their backs away from danger. Yet that same parent eagle will nudge its chick out of the nest so it can learn to soar.
  • The eagle is a powerful symbol in the Bible, representing God's power, protection, and sovereignty.
  • It symbolizes His anointing power, the Holy Spirit, faith, belief, wisdom, and vision.
  • The care of a mother eagle and the punishment of wrongdoers are used to demonstrate the eagle's significance.
  • An eagle's strength, supremacy, and ability to withstand storms reflect God's handiwork.
  • Soaring to new heights, the eagle can be a source of inspiration and empowerment for believers.
  • God uses eagles as divine messengers to protect and guide us.
  • Eagles soar above, representing God's limitless power and watchful eye over us.
  • Eagles have a keen eye for detail, just like God who knows every detail of our lives.
  • Trust in God's power and let Him guide you.
  • Eagles remind us that God is ever-present and powerful.

So ask God to help you fly an eagle, rather than run with the turkeys.
