Faith and SQ

Last time I talked about the book Seeing is Believing. The author talks about SQ the spiritual equivalent of IQ, but I'm not sure that I think they are the same. I'll explain why in a little bit.

First let's talk about logic and reason vs faith. Science is the primary realm for logic and reason and many scientists and atheists see science as our salvation based on logic, but Heisenberg's uncertainty principle says that even measuring down to the smallest level we cannot be precise because our human interaction changes the measurement ever so slightly. There is something similar in math and chaotic systems there are equations that are not calculable because there are too many factors. So there is some stuff we can't measure or understand with logic. Reason alone cannot answer all our questions.

Second there is an underlying assumption that the science is always right. That is not the case science takes many things on faith based upon the preponderance of the evidence. One of the biggest examples of this were Newton's laws of motion which were the basics of physics for years and years until a patent clerk came up with. theory of relativity that set our concepts of time and space into another plane.

Look at Lynn Marguiles, her work with slime molds redefined taxonomy from the traditional 3 phyla to five and then added 3 domains above the phyla,

What Margulis is really famous for is endosymbiotic theory. Marguiles posited that evolution as NOT the only mechanism or organismic change Evolution is incomplete, scientific heresy! In 1981, Margulis published Symbiosis in Cell Evolution in which she proposed that the eukaryotic cells originated as communities of interacting entities that joined together in a specific order.  One cell ate another cell and made a eukaryotic or true cell. The best evidence for this are the organelles chloroplasts and mitochondria but other organelles that have their own membranes include:

  1. endoplasmic reticulum
  2. plastids
  3. golgi apparatus
  4. lysosomes
  5. ribosomes
  6. vacuoles
  7. nucleus

Today both Margulis's thought on taxonomy and endosymbiosis are widely accepted in the biological community.

Can scientists PROVE these theories? No but there is a weight of evidence so we take it on faith. The same is true with other theories like evolution and the Big Bang. They are theories because there is evidence but we cannot reproduce them in a laboratory.  The same way those with SQ see the hand of God at work and take God's existence on faith, but faith in God is more than that. Faith is the acknowledgement of the God in us Like responding to like,  as the Holy Spirit responds to God.

Here are some verses that talk about God in us

2 Timothy 1:14    Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you.

Ephesians 2:22    ...in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

Ephesians 3:17    ...so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

Colossians 1:27   ...to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Hebrews 3:6    ....but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house—whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.

The Holy Spirit which you were given makes the way for God in us that presence is endosymbiotic.  The Holy Spirit is the mitochondria of our spirits. Just as a mitochondria fuels a cell so the Holy Spirit fuels our faith. That relationship between the Holy Spirit and ourselves  allows us to hear and respond to the voice of God. So faith is more than SQ It is God in us, that helps to grow our faith. Faith is the evidence of things not seen.

"The more I study science, the more I believe in God" Einstein.
