Montains II

I just got back from a women's retreat in Casper, where the featured speaker talked about audacious faith and quoted the verse in Matthew that says if we have the faith of a mustard seed, our faith can move mountains. If you read my earlier blog on mountains, you know they can be made by plate convergence, which causes folded mountains like the Himalayas or subduction, which causes most volcanic mountains or fault mountains which are caused when plates slip along side each other, So all of these mountains only move when the pressure is great enough. Volcanic mountains can literally lose their tops. Fault mountains can be felt miles away when they move, but mountains are more than obstacles. Mountains in the Bible symbolize sacred meeting places where heaven and earth intersect. Mount Sinai[Horeb): God appeared to Moses and gave him the Ten Commandments, establishing a covenant with the Israelites. Mount Ararat The place where Noah's Ark came to rest after the: Located in Jeru...

RIpples

Image
According to Google ripples" can refer to s mall waves on a surface, especially water. It can also describe a sound or feeling that spreads through a group, or a concept in physics called the r ipple effect , where one action causes a chain reaction of consequences. The last few days I have been thinking alot about ripples Let's look at all three of these definitions. When I was little my brother and I would go down to the river and skip stones. If you did it right the stone would skip several times causing overlapping circles. How many skips you got depended on the size and shape of your stone, the angle and strength of your throw and the water condition. A tiny pebble could have a huge effect.  Some dear friends of mine just lost their infant son. He was only a week old but the significance of his life and death is sending ripples throughout my community and my heart. One short, brillant, little life touching so many people's hearts and lives. His was a small, smo...

Photosynthesis

Image
As someone who is convinced that I have worlds to learn about love I thought I would take the lessons of the hydrologic cycle a little further and consider photosynthesis.   Photosynthesis is, at its core, an  energy conversion process . Input Energy:  Light energy (photons) from the sun. Output Energy:  Chemical potential energy stored in the covalent bonds of organic molecules, primarily glucose (C₆H₁₂O₆). This transformation occurs when organisms produce  carbon compounds  (like glucose) using light as the energy source. The key words here being conversion and transformation. It’s an  anabolic  process, meaning it b uilds complex molecules from simpler ones, requiring energy input. Reactants: Six molecules of carbon dioxide (CO₂) and six molecules of water (H₂O). Energy Source: Light energy. Products: One molecule of glucose (C₆H₁₂O₆) and six molecules of oxygen (O₂). Key components: Carbon Dioxide (CO₂): Absorbed from t...

The Hydrologic Cycle

Image
More water what a surprise, blame my therapist. She wanted me to explore precipitation as a metaphor for love so of course being the over achiever that I am I decided to tackle the entire water cycle. The stages of the hydrologic or water cycle are:  evaporation where liquid turns into vapor condensation, where vapor turns into clouds precipitation, where water falls back to Earth as rain, snow, or hail collection where water gathers in oceans, rivers and other bodies transpiration water released by plants Runoff water released over the land Infiltration water soaking into the ground  Let's start with evaporation. It requires heat and a condensation nuclei that the evaporated water adheres to forming clouds (condensation). Without that slight impurity there will be no cloud formation no condensation. There is no need for the Living Water. The amount of water in the air is called the relative humidity. The hotter the air the more space there is for water. So in other words, whe...
